UK Cyclist: Long-distance and leisure cycling in the South-west and elsewhere

Not so much a cycle ride, more an excuse to pedal to a pub (See our blog or our Facebook group ). We visit a different hostelry each week. Total distance is between 15 and 25 miles. We leave from the Younghayes centre in Cranbrook at 7pm and return home by 11pm. Feel free to join us in Cranbrook, on route or at the pub. We usually arrive at the pub between 7:45 and 8:30pm. Join us and discover what a "cheeky half" is. It's always best to phone or text one of the numbers below to let us know you're coming.

We recommend membership of the CTC - here is a link to their membership page.

Riding by moonlight or starlight is wonderful, but ensure you are properly equipped. It is your responsibility to ensure that your cycle is in good working order, and that you have a means of getting home in the event of a breakdown. Good front and rear lights are essential, and it is advisable to wear bright, weather-proof clothing.

We aim to leave promptly, so it's best to arrive a few minutes before the start time – if you are running late, or wish to meet somewhere en route, please phone to let us know.

Long-distance cycling under AUK rules is often (though inaccurately) referred to as audaxing. Mudguards are not required for any of these events. Use whatever bike suits you. If you don't want to follow a routesheet then download the GPS file. You will need to be fit and self-sufficient. Most of these events, especially the longer ones, are hard. You should be an experienced cyclist with both fitness and stamina. There is a minimum speed of 15kph for all the events of 200km and above. Don't worry about the maximum speed of 30kph, you won't get near it. Prepare your bike and yourself carefully for any of these events. If you do all the distances, you become an Exeter Wheelers Super Randonneur.
