A brand-new 300 from Uffculme by Jamie Andrews
Running on Saturday September 3rd 2016 at 8am from Magelake Hall, Uffculme, Devon
Entry on official AUK website here
Marlborough with Lights
The start is at the Magelake Hall which is located just over the river from the village of Uffculme, Devon.
There is a free car park at the start.
The event starts at 8am and it should be possible to get an early morning train from Bristol or Plymouth and comfortably ride to the start. Left luggage will be available.
After starting the first control is only a few miles away in Hemyock. There won't be any facilities there, just a quick stamp on your card from a helper
The first few miles over the Blackdown Hills is surprisingly difficult but soon you'll be flying down Blagdon hill and passing through Taunton
The route then goes to Langport and then the B3153 is your friend all the way to Castle Cary
It’s then a bit laney up to Nunney Catch (even the A359 is like a lane). There’s a brief bit of busy road and then the route goes through the centre of Frome. Soon after this you should be seeing your first white horse in the chalk hills, just after Westbury
There’s a cafe stop in Marlborough then it’s back over the wonderful hills around Marlborough again.
The return route is slightly more north than the outbound and cuts through Glastonbury. After this it uses one of my favourite bits of road, the (usually quiet) A361 via Othery, where there is an evening checkpoint at the village hall
